Rochdale hit Stockport for seven, Peterborough boosted their play-off hopes, but basement boys Torquay were beaten again.

Rochdale eased any lingering fears over relegation when routing Stockport at Edgeley Park.

The Hatters have designs on promotion, but they bumped into a Rochdale side in rampant form.

Rochdale came out at a rate of knots and were four goals to the good inside 17 minutes, as Glenn Murray, Alan Goodall, Adam Rundle and Ben Muirhead found the target.

Stockport rallied to the cause before the break and goals from Anthony Elding and Liam Dickinson raised hopes of a fightback.

However, Muirhead volleyed home his second of the game on 46 minutes and Murray headed home his second on 53 minutes to kill off The Hatters.

And in in the last minute Chris Dagnall rubbed salt into the wounds as he netted a seventh to hand Stockport their first home defeat for six months.

Peterborough boosted their hopes of sneaking into the play-off places with a 2-0 win at Grimsby.

George Boyd seized on a defensive error to fire Peterborough ahead on 46 minutes and debutant loanee Alan White headed home the second on 73 minutes.

Derek Asamoah fired home after Torquay failed to clear a free-kick and his goal on 77 minutes was enough for Shrewsbury to consign The Gulls to their 22nd defeat of the season, while it also boosted Town's hopes of mounting a promotion push.

Accrington Stanley put breathing space between themselves and the drop zone with a 2-0 win over Hereford.

David Brown opened the scoring and the victory was sealed when Peter Cavanagh slammed home a free-kick on 54 minutes.

Second bottom Wrexham kept pace with Accrington as Jeff Whitley's late goal was enough to give them a 1-0 win at Bristol Rovers.

Tcham N'Toya's goal five minutes before the interval was enough to hand Notts County a 1-0 win at Bury who are now looking over their shoulders at the relegation spots.

Goals from Phil Bolland and Jamie Hand secured Chester three points from their home game with Barnet.
