Stockport County boss Jim Gannon wants a medium-term extension on Adam Proudlock's contract.
The 25-year-old striker, who has had spells with Wolves, Sheffield Wednesday and Ipswich, joined The Hatters on a short-term deal at the beginning of the season so that he could regain his fitness and prove his worth.
And, although Proudlock is yet to cement his place in the first team, Gannon believes he has done enough to warrant a longer contract.
"We've already spoken to Adam and we knew his deal would be extended in the new year," he said.
"We're going to sit down and discuss with him how we're going to structure something for the medium term for him.
"At the moment, he just wants to get on with playing and he enjoyed the weekend - he looked back to his sharp self. I think he's really enjoying his football here and wants to stay so I don't think there'll be any major problems.
"We just want him to continue working hard and getting better."
