Steve Basham's penalty got Oxford United back to winning ways against Bristol Rovers.
Darren Patterson's managerial career got off to a dream start as Oxford United dented Bristol Rovers hopes of a play-off place by battling their way to a 1-0 win on Wednesday night.
Fans protested against chairman Firoz Kassam outside the ground, although their anger at the club's slide down the table will be tempered, albeit briefly, by United's first win in eleven games.
Steve Basham was the architect of Rovers' downfall and, after seeing an early effort cleared off the line, he claimed the only goal of the game in the 65th minute.
When James Hunt felled Chris Hargreaves inside the box, Basham showed nerves of steel in slotting the resulting spot-kick past Scott Shearer for his thirteenth of the season.
