Pirates tie up Anthony deal

Bristol Rovers have completed the signing of former Cardiff defender Byron Anthony.

Bristol Rovers have completed the signing of former Cardiff City defender Byron Anthony.

The 21-year-old has accepted a 12-month contract at The Memorial Stadium after impressing while on trial in pre-season.

He was released by Cardiff at the end of last term after making just three appearances for the ambitious Championship club.

Rovers boss Paul Trollope is happy to bring in Anthony and could hand the player his debut against Peterborough United on Saturday.

"Byron has done well in pre-season," Trollope told the club's official website.

"He hasn't played in every game, but the ones he has played in, and the way he has performed in training, has shown us enough.

"We know he will be a good addition to the squad. He is good in the air, he has aggression, he has pace and he can also play a bit and bring the ball out from the back, so from that point of view, he fits the bill."
