Rigg close to return

Sean Rigg is nearing a return to action after seven weeks out with a broken jaw.

Sean Rigg is nearing a return to action after seven weeks out with a broken jaw.

Bristol Rovers boss Paul Trollope says the striker has stepped up his training and "could be back in the fold very quickly."

Rigg suffered the injury after receiving an elbow in the face from Barrow's James Cotterill in the FA Cup last month.

"Sean's not far away. We will be getting in touch with the specialist this week. Originally he said Sean might be back after Christmas, and that's come and gone now so we'd like to get him back in the fold as soon as we can," Trollope told the Evening Post.

"He couldn't do anything for the first week or two, then he started running and within two or three weeks he was back training within the group.

"Obviously at first we went carefully with him when it came to contact or heading, but he's been back a while now and training fully.

"We've stepped his heading up but he's had no contact in a proper game and obviously if someone puts an elbow up and catches him in the jaw, it's going to test it.

"But it's down to the specialist and if he says Sean's Okay to play, he could be back in the fold very quickly."
