Michael Smith has rounded off his good week by signing a new three-year deal at Peterborough.

The defender was handed the role of vice-captain at London Road on Tuesday and 24 hours later Posh announced the 27-year-old had penned a new contract.

Smith has made 89 appearances for the club since joining in 2014 and has one cap for Northern Ireland.

Posh manager Grant McCann told the club's website: "He has been great since he joined. We have helped make him an international player and I am sure he will be knocking on Michael O'Neill's door now for the World Cup qualifiers.

"Hayden White has started the first few days of pre-season really well, he is lightening quick and will be giving Michael some serious competition for that right-back berth. That is what I wanted, he hasn't had that before and I think he is really relishing that competition.
