The Irish FA has given Grant McCann permission to join the Northern Ireland squad.

Midfielder granted special dispensation by Irish FA

The Irish Football Association has given Grant McCann permission to join the Northern Ireland squad and complete a coaching course at a later date. The Scunthorpe midfielder is in Belfast to take his Uefa 'A' Licence badge, but the course is not scheduled to finish until Friday. McCann was therefore facing a problem as he was named as member of the Northern Ireland squad that is preparing to face Italy in a friendly in Pisa on Saturday. But the 29-year-old has been granted special dispensation from the Irish FA to leave the course on Thursday and meet his international team-mates as originally planned. With 21 caps under his belt, McCann is the third-most experienced player in the squad behind record scorer David Healy and Damien Johnson.
