PLATT'S MY BOY

It is believed that Platt, who was reportedly the subject of a £500,000 bid from Blackburn Rovers last season, was watched by Mariners boss Lennie Lawrence as he turned out for Dale's reserves during mid-week.
Any bid for Platt would seem unlikely, though, as cash-strapped Grimsby would be forced to smash their club transfer record in order to capture the 23-year-old's signature.
However, the move could possibly be financed by transfer funds raised by the sale of goalkeeper Danny Coyne, who is being widely touted as David James's new understudy at Aston Villa.
The Wolverhampton-born target man has excelled at Spotland since recapturing his confidence following a lean spell during the 1999/2000 season.
Platt has found the net 14 times in his 65 league appearances for Rochdale since joining them from Walsall and has recently formed a prolific strike partnership with ex-Stoke City forward Paul Connor.
