The Nene Park outfit are looking good for promotion but were made to work hard as they twice came from behind before being thwarted themselves late in the game.
Dale player boss Paul Simpson opened the scoring for the visitors on 27 minutes, finding the back of the net with a precise finish.
Paul Hall`s header shortly after the break brought Rushden level, but the visitors took the lead for the second time on 63 minutes when Simon Grand pounced after the home side failed to clear a free-kick.
Three minutes later Onandi Lowe (pictured) announced his name on the game by heading home Andy Burgess` corner.
Lowe repeated the dose ten minutes later when getting ahead of his marker to head Rushden into the lead.
The celebrations were cut short, however, as Dale substitute Patrick McCourt scored with the aid of deflection three minutes from time.
