Rochdale boss Steve Parkin is hopeful Neil Edwards will shun a move to Bury.Rochdale boss Steve Parkin remains hopeful Neil Edwards will shun a move to Bury to stay at Spotland.
Edwards will shortly be out of contract but has been offered terms to stick with Dale next season.
League Two rivals Bury have spoken to the experienced goalkeeper and Edwards is currently mulling over his future.
Parkin is aware of Bury's interest in the 34-year-old but is hoping that Edwards will provide the competition for Matthew Gilks next term.
"Neil is a tremendous professional and I want him to know how much I'd like him to stay a Rochdale player," Parkin told the club's official website.
"I know he has held talks with Graham Barrow but I also know he likes being at Spotland and hopefully this will prove an important factor.
"Like everybody else he wants to play football, he won't like being on the bench like he was towards the end of last season."
Parkin has received one boost, though, with veteran defender Tony Gallimore concurring on a new deal at Spotland.
