Dale close on Perkins

Rochdale are nearing a move for Morecambe midfielder David Perkins.

Rochdale are nearing a move for Morecambe midfielder David Perkins.

Spotland boss Keith Hill is in talks with the former Christie Park trainee, as the League Two club look to boost their ranks before the end of the month.

Perkins is a left-sided player, who can also play through the centre of midfield.

"We've contacted Morecambe with regards to signing David and although we've a agreed a deal in principle, we haven't even spoken to the player himself yet, so it's incorrect to say he's signed for us," Dale general manager Colin Garlick told the club's official website.

"We are very keen to sign him and we hope to have further developments on this within days."

As the club look to add to their midfield ranks, Rochdale have let defender Jonathan Boardman leave the club by mutual consent.

The former Woking player leaves the League Two side after less than two years with the North West outfit.

"I'm disappointed to be leaving, but I have to say I've enjoyed it here," Boardman said.

"It's a good little club and I have made some very good friends, but at the end of the day, it is the manager who picks the team and unfortunately, he didn't pick me as often as I'd like."
