Hess expects selection headache

Gillingham boss Andy Hessenthaler admits it "won't be easy" selecting his side next week after an injury-hit line-up won 5-2 at Torquay.

The Gills swept ahead through two first-half goals from former United forward Jo Kuffour, but the home side hit back with two goals in the opening six minutes of the second half from Chris Robertson and Danny Stevens before a foul on Kuffour enabled Luke Rooney to put Gillingham back ahead from the penalty spot. Rooney's box-to-box run teed-up Frank Nouble for Gillingham's fourth goal before Chris Whelpdale's last-minute cross-cum-shot flew in to complete Torquay's misery. Hessenthaler said: "We will be looking a lot brighter, injury-wise, I'm sure next week. I should get four or five back so selecting a side won't be so easy. That's what I'm here for but the players that have played haven't done themselves any harm. "We had to step up to the plate a little bit and some of the players knew they had been off it a little bit. "But they showed what they are capable of and it was terrific for Chris Whelpdale because he did put in a great shift, especially in the second half, and he got a good goal as well."
