Grimsby gave themselves a survival lifeline, whilst Rotherham and Aldershot sealed their play-off places.
Grimsby beat Barnet to take relegation to last day
Grimsby Town have given themselves a Football League lifeline after they defeated Barnet, whilst Rotherham and Aldershot sealed their places in the play-offs.
Grimsby played host to
Barnet at Blundell Park, knowing that anything but victory would see them relegated.
And the Mariners did what they needed to do as they claimed a 2-0 win over Barnet.
Rob Atkinson put them ahead as he volleyed home on the hour before Mark Hudson broke clear to seal the win in stoppage-time.
The final relegation spot will now be decided on the final day with Barnet just a point ahead of Grimsby.
Cheltenham could technically still be overtaken by Grimsby too, after they lost 5-0 at
Notts County.
For the Robins to get dragged into the bottom two, Barnet and Grimsby would both need to win, plus there would have to be a six-goal swing between Cheltenham and the Mariners.
Cheltenham, though, will have to pick themselves up after their thrashing at the hands of their former boss Steve Cotterill.
The League Two champions dominated at Meadow Lane as they scored four goals in 10 first-half minutes as Graeme Lee, Ben Davies and Lee Hughes (two) all netted.
Only one further goal arrived in the second period as Luke Rodgers found the back of the net.
The play-off picture is also a little clearer after
Rotherham and Aldershot cemented their places in the top seven.
Ronnie Moore's men did it courtesy of a 0-0 draw with
Crewe at the Don Valley Stadium.
Aldershot sealed their place after a 3-1 win over
Lincoln.
Kevin Dillon's side had to come from behind as Davide Somma struck on the hour for Lincoln.
Then it was the Morgans that did it for the Shots, as two goals from Marvin sandwiched an effort from namesake Dean.
But the final two places are far from decided as both Bury and Port Vale dropped out - replaced by Morecambe and Dagenham & Redbridge.
Bury saw their 125th anniversary celebrations dampened as they lost 3-0 at home to
Torquay.
Mustapha Carayol scored just before the break, before Danny Stevens and Scott Rendell scored late on.
Port Vale suffered a similar fate as they went down 4-0 to already promoted
Bournemouth at Dean Court.
All the goals arrived in the second half as goals from Alan Connell, Josh McQuiod and a brace from Alan Connell downed Vale.
Both Morecambe and Dagenham took advantage of the slip-ups from Bury and Port Vale.
Morecambe find themselves in sixth place after they claimed a 3-2 win at managerless
Shrewsbury - which ended their slim play-off hopes.
The Shrimps raced into a two-goal lead after just 15 minutes with Mark Duffy and David Artell scoring.
But the Shrews, who sacked Paul Simpson on Friday, hit back as Ben van den Broek and Tom Bradshaw fired home.
But Artell rose to head home the winner for Morecambe on the hour and send Sammy McIlroy's side into the top seven.
Dagenham also moved into the play-off spots after a hard-fought 2-1 win over
Hereford at Victoria Road.
Paul Benson put the Daggers ahead 10 minutes before the break before Marc Pugh levelled for the Bulls just after the hour.
Dagenham then won it in injury-time as Graeme Montgomery scored.
Dagenham were handed the chance to move into the play-offs as neither Chesterfield nor Northampton could win.
Chesterfield went down 2-0 at
Accrington Stanley with Billy Kee grabbing both goals in the second half at the Crown Ground.
Northampton also went down 2-0, as Gareth Evans scored a goal in each half for
Bradford City at Valley Parade.
Elsewhere, already promoted
Rochdale ended their home campaign on a low note as
Burton grabbed a 2-1 win thanks to goals from Cleveland Taylor and Shaun Harrad.
Chris O'Grady pulled one back with just 10 minutes to go for Keith Hill's side.
Finally, Blue Square Premier-bound
Darlington grabbed a 2-0 win at
Macclesfield, with Ian Miller and Michael Smith scoring for the Quakers.
