Notts County greats Jimmy Sirrel and Jack Wheeler honoured with statue

Notts County have unveiled a statue depicting their former management team of Jimmy Sirrel and Jack Wheeler.

The unveiling at the Sky Bet League Two's Meadow Lane ground was attended by more than 200 people.

Having started working at the club together in 1969 they were reunited in in 1975 after Sirrell had managed Sheffield United and in 1981 they won promotion for the Magpies to the old First Division.

The unveiling was attended by the Lord Mayor, the Sheriff of Nottingham and by the families of Sirrel and Wheeler who died in 2008 and 2009 respectively.

The statue was paid for by fundraising efforts which raised in excess of £100,000.
