The influential midfielder has been out of action since limping out of the pre-season programme and was forced to have a knee operation.
He has yet to figure for The Mariners this season but is on his way back to fitness.
Club physio Paul Mitchell says that Pouton has been given the go-ahead by a specialist to step up training in his bid for fitness.
"Alan saw a specialist yesterday (Monday), he's pleased with his progress and he's stepping it up," said Mitchell.
Meanwhile, Stacy Coldicott is struggling in his comeback from a broken leg as it fails to heal the way doctors would have wished, and he is unlikely to be fit before Christmas.
Marcel Cas is due to have his stitches removed from a gashed leg and will be struggling for Saturday's trip to Brighton.
