Boss backs McGleish to shine

Lawrie Sanchez backed Scott McGleish to add vital experience to struggling Barnet after making an impact in a 1-1 draw with Rotherham.

Sanchez's side had lost four League Two games on the spin and were forced to settle for a draw against the Millers when Ben Pringle equalised Barnet midfielder Mark Byrne's free-kick. But after seeing Paul Downing red carded after 65 minutes Sanchez, who brought McGleish back to Barnet on loan from Bristol Rovers in midweek, insists the Bees are heading in the right direction. "After going down to 10 men I'm happy with a point, you've got to give credit to the players," said Sanchez, who refused to speak after defeats in midweek and last weekend. "The players stood up to be counted and that's what we need for the rest of the season. "We are young and we look naive at times so it's good to bring in an experienced player like McGleish, he's got leadership qualities. We probably have the youngest back five in league football and it's hard to defend big defeats. "I haven't been speaking to the press because I don't want them reading me having a go at them. But the players coped well with everything Rotherham threw at us, apart from the one cross that led to Pringle's goal."
