Mills has impressed at the JD Stadium since joining the club in January on a free transfer.
The former Derby and Rotherham defender's current deal expires at the end of the season, but Bury boss David Flitcroft is determined to secure the 29-year-old's future on a long-term basis.
Mills' agent, Gino Culbertson, has confirmed talks are underway about a new contract to keep the defender at Bury.
"It was something of a mystery that a player of Pablo's ability and commitment could not find a club, that was until David Flitcroft decided to take a chance on him in January, by offering him a short term contract to the end of the season," Culbertson told Sky Sports.
"At the time they had relegation worries but now after a great run of results they are only six points off the play-offs and Pablo's contribution to that turnaround has been immense, with his consistent and committed performances making him a huge favourite of the fans.
"Pablo is again enjoying his football and a lot of that is down to the faith the manager has shown in him and as such the club now want to offer him a new contract as a reward for his efforts and we are currently in discussions to hopefully agree terms that will keep him at the JD Stadium.
"A leader both on and off the pitch he is now looking forward to what the club can now achieve next season with the potential that is available."
