Sunderland defender will remain with Carlisle

Defender Michael Liddle has extended his loan stay with Carlisle from Sunderland until the end of the season. The left-back initially joined the League One club for a two-month stint in November before the deal was extended until 14th February. Liddle, 19, has made 14 appearances for Greg Abbott's side so far and will now remain at Brunton Park until the conclusion of the campaign. The Republic of Ireland Under-21 international was allowed to leave the Stadium of Light to gain greater first-team experience. He signed a new two-and-a-half-year deal on Wearside last week and remains a part of the club's long-term plans.
