Adebayo Akinfenwa looks to have played his last game for Torquay United after performing a U-turn by rejecting a new contract.The striker's situation at Plainmoor has been turbulent during the past fortnight after he initially shunned the offer of a two-year deal.
On Thursday, Akinfenwa spoke to Gulls boss Leroy Rosenior to state he had changed his mind and would be signing the contract extension.
But the 23-year-old has now declared he is unwilling to ink the terms on offer, with Gulls chairman Mike Bateson feeling there is no way back for Akinfenwa.
"To say that Leroy is angry is an understatement especially after Akinfenwa phoned Leroy on Thursday to say he'd be down next week to finalise the contract," Bateson told the club's official website.
"I can not begin to imagine what they are playing at but it will be even more difficult for Akinfenwa to return having burnt his bridges for a second time and Leroy has reached the stage where he no longer sees any merit in having him in the squad.
"There is a limit to the amount of messing about we will tolerate and that limit has now been breached and I can not now see any circumstances in which the player will return to Torquay United."
Akinfenwa scored 16 goals for Torquay after joining from Doncaster Rovers last summer but it is claimed he is trying to clinch a contract with a Championship club.
