Torquay's star striker Adebayo Akinfenwa is to sign a new two year deal.
Torquay United star striker Adebo Akinfenwa will next week sign a two-year extension with the club - despite recent criticism from manager Leroy Rosenior.
Rosenior had slammed last season's top scorer for his apparent unwillingness to commit himself to Plainmoor. But chairman Mike Bateson is confident of tying-up the 23-year-old Londoner in the near future.
Bateson said: "We have been in touch with the Adebo's agent and are due to have talks with the player and his agent at the start of next week - hopefully on Monday."
The comments were in stark contrast to Rosenior's words last week, when he blazed: ''Akinfenwa came to us with a poor record and it took a lot of work to turn him into the player he seems to have become.
"I would have thought he at least owed us the courtesy of a formal response to our offer rather than having to read about his unwillingness to sign in a newspaper.''
Supporters' player of the season Akinfenwa netted 16 times last term despite Torquay slipping out of League One on goal difference.
