Allen bemoans Magpies' JPT exit

Notts County boss Martin Allen says there are few positives to take as his side lost 3-1 to Chesterfield in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy.

Allen made seven changes from the side which lost 3-0 to MK Dons on Saturday, and the Magpies were weakened further when both centre-halves, Krystian Pearce and Mike Edwards, were injured after just 16 minutes. However, Allen was pleased that Karl Hawley repaid his faith by netting his first goal of the season. Allen said: "It was a great goal and I'm absolutely chuffed to bits for Karl. "One of the only positives from this game is that goal. "It was a brilliant bit of skill to get the chance and he has got that natural ability."
