Celtic are waiting to hear if they face possible sanctions after video footage showed flares being thrown from a section of visiting fans during their Scottish Cup tie against Stranraer on Sunday.
The start of the match at Stair Park was briefly held up as objects were cleared from the pitch, forcing players from both sides to remain in the tunnel.
A smoke bomb was also thrown onto the pitch during the match, which Celtic won 3-0.
Scottish FA compliance officer Tony McGlennan will review any footage available to him and, should he decide any rules have been broken, will write to both clubs to seek their views before passing the matter to a judicial panel.
The matter is still at an early stage but among the guidelines McGlennan will consult before taking his next step are SFA disciplinary rules 35 and 37, which govern the responsibility of clubs to ensure the good conduct and behaviour of supporters, whether at home or away.
Celtic have a UEFA charge pending after fans set off flares during their Europa League clash with Fenerbahce in Turkey last month and manager Ronny Deila has again warned travelling fans they risk further damaging the club's reputation.
The Norwegian said: 'We don't want this. It's something that is making a bad reputation for the club. So this is absolutely something we need to get stopped."
