Inverness Caledonian Thistle supporters have been offered the chance to invest in their club are a tranche of shares were gifted to charity.

An anonymous donor has given the Highland Hospice 573,950 ordinary shares - which represent 19 per cent of voting rights in the Scottish Cup holders. The shares are worth approximately £570,000.

The charity is hopeful that fans may be interested in acquiring them to help boost their £4.5m appeal for a new in-patient facility in the Highland capital.

A charity spokesman said: "We have been having various conversations with local people. Someone came forward and said 'I would like to gift my voting shares in Inverness Caledonian Thistle'.

"All I can say is that it is a supportive Highland family-owned business.

"We are not planning to have representation on the board. We would not intend or expect to participate in any way. We are just waiting to see if there is some way we can turn the shares into a financial benefit for our appeal."
