Hamilton have completed the signing of former Celtic and AC Milan midfielder Massimo Donati.

Donati joins from Italian Serie B side Bari and has signed a one-year deal at New Douglas Park.

The 35-year-old could make his debut for the Scottish Premiership club against St Mirren in the Scottish League Cup on Saturday.

Donati, a former Italy U21 international, started his professional career at Atalanta in 1999 before moving to Milan two years later.

He made just 24 appearances for Milan between 2001 and 2007, spending time on loan at Parma, Torino, Sampdoria, Messina and former club Atalanta during that period.

Donati left Milan to join Celtic on a permanent basis and went on to make 54 appearances for the Bhoys, helping them to win the Scottish Premiership title in 2008.

He becomes manager Martin Canning's fourth new signing of the summer following the arrivals of Remi Matthews, Jack Breslin and Jordan McGregor.

"It is a good signing for us," Canning said. "Obviously Massimo has played at a high level throughout his whole career so hopefully coming here he can add that experiences to the team, which is something we are looking to do this year.

"If we can get a couple of experienced players to marry up with the youth then hopefully we can have another successful season.

"He wanted to come here which is really pleasing. His enthusiasm for football is great and he has looked after himself."
