Ryan Christie has completed a six-month loan switch from Celtic to Aberdeen.

The 21-year-old was brought to the east end of Glasgow from Inverness 18 months ago by former Celtic boss Ronny Deila but has struggled for game time at Parkhead.

The fight for midfield places at Celtic under current manager Brendan Rodgers is particularly competitive and Christie has made only seven appearances this season.

Scott Allan, Kris Commons and Kristoffer Ajer are other midfielders who have left Celtic looking for more first team action; the former is with Rotherham on a season-long agreement while Commons spent a month on an emergency loan with Hibs, an arrangement which may yet be extended; Ajer has joined Kilmarnock until the summer.

Christie will train with his new team-mates on Wednesday morning and would be eligible to face Dundee on Friday night at Pittodrie, if selected.

Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes told the club website: "I am delighted to get a player of Ryan's quality into the club.

"We want to make a couple of additions in the January window - quality additions - and there is no doubt Ryan has the quality to come in and make an impact with us. Ryan can help us with the challenges that lie ahead during the second half of the season.

"I would also like to thank Brendan Rodgers and Celtic for assisting in getting the deal done."

McInnes has lost James Maddison and Wes Burns recently following the end of loan spells, although a return for the former from Norwich City has not been ruled out.
