Rangers caretaker manager Graeme Murty says he is unaware where reports suggesting how long he will stay in charge for have come from

Rangers caretaker boss Graeme Murty says he is not planning to apply for the manager's role.

Following Mark Warburton's departure, the Ladbrokes Premiership club have begun the formal interview process as they search for a new manager and a new director of football.

But Murty, who is currently in charge on a game-by-game basis, says he is not likely to be a candidate to take the role on a permanent basis.

Murty is currently preparing the team for a Friday night trip to Inverness but, when asked if he would be putting his hat into the ring for the full-time job, he said: "I would doubt it."

There have been conflicting reports about whether a new man will be in place for the trip to Celtic on March 12 but Murty says he has not been made aware of any timescale.

"I don't know where the stories have come from," he added.

"I got told today by some of the players that they have heard this. I haven't heard anything. As soon as I hear, I will believe it. Until then, I will just carry on."

In the meantime, Murty says his communication with the board has been focused on helping the team in the short term.

"They have not put any timescale or any pressure on me," he said.

"The only communication I have had from all members of the board is: 'Keep doing what you are doing, can we help you at all?' So that's been great.

Murty has admitted that he doubts he will apply for the job on a permanent basis

"I'm grateful to be in the role and I will continue to fill this as well as I can in my tenure here.

"If it's tomorrow that it changes, if it's next week, whenever it is, I will just be continuing on and making sure I do the best for the players.

"I said before, it's not about me, it's about making sure the players have what they need."
