Kilmarnock manager Jim Jefferies has abandoned plans to sign midfielder Craig Rocastle, because he wants a striker instead.
Rocastle has been released by Port Vale and Jefferies considered offering the 26-year-old free agent a trial at Rugby Park.
However, Jefferies has decided that Kilmarnock's priorities lie elsewhere and is focused on signing a new striker.
Jefferies recently had a £50,000 offer for Linfield frontman Peter Thompson turned down, but he is optimistic he will add to his attacking options before the start of the season.
"I thought about bringing in Craig on trial and had a chat with him," Jefferies told the Daily Record.
"But I've decided against it as we are well covered in the middle of the park and our priority is another striker.
"We inquired about Thompson but Linfield wanted substantial money for him, more than we want to pay, so I don't think that will go much further.
"We've talked to some clubs about getting players in on loan and we are waiting for them to get back to us."
