Old Firm rivals Rangers and Celtic started the new SPL season with comfortable wins as St Johnstone marked their return to the top flight with a draw.
Hibernian were forced to battle back to overcome St Mirren at home, while Kilmarnock enjoyed an easy win over Hamilton Academical.
Celtic enjoyed the perfect start to their quest to regain the SPL crown after picking up a convincing 3-1 triumph at
Aberdeen.
Aiden McGeady scored twice in the first half, and Scott McDonald was also on target before the break before Sone Aluko smashed home a stunning consolation for the Dons on 61 minutes.
Rangers were quick to rise to the challenge laid down by Celtic after opening the defence of their title with a 4-1 win over
Falkirk at Ibrox.
Lee McCulloch gave Rangers the lead only for Carl Finnigan to equalise for Falkirk before Kenny Miller restored the champions' advantage prior to half-time.
Miller scored his second of the match on 72 minutes and Steven Naismith ensured the Gers went one better than rivals Celtic by netting the fourth goal on 83 minutes.
Hibernian were forced to come from behind to open the season with a 2-1 win over 10-man
St Mirren at Easter Road.
The visitors were down to 10 men when Steven Thomson was sent off after just 17 minutes, but took the lead on 38 minutes through Stephen McGinn.
Within 60 seconds, Hibs were level courtesy of David Wotherspoon and Abdessalam Benjelloun grabbed the winner seven minutes from time.
St Johnstone twice held the lead at home to
Motherwell only to be pegged back for a 2-2 draw on their return to the top flight.
Murray Davidson and Graham Gartland had put St Johnstone ahead on each occasion, with Motherwell replying through Shaun Hutchinson and Ross Forbes.
Kilmarnock striker Kevin Kyle proved his fitness in no uncertain terms by scoring twice in a 3-0 home win over
Hamilton.
Kyle had been a doubt before the game, but he struck either side of half-time before Jamie Hamill added a third goal on 68 minutes.
