Celtic captain Scott Brown hopes to have returned to full fitness and form in time for the semi-finals of the Co-operative Insurance Cup.
The Scotland midfielder was ruled out for 10 weeks earlier in the month with an ankle problem and he is now undergoing a lengthy period of rehabilitation.
But speaking at the draw for the semi-final of the cup on Friday, where Celtic were drawn against Aberdeen and Old Firm rivals Rangers were paired with Motherwell for the January matches, Brown revealed his hopes to be back by the New Year.
"Hopefully I will be back and flying by the time of the semis," he said.
"They found out it was a broken bone. You can play with these injuries but it gets worse and worse. Eventually I went to get a scan and now we can take it from here.
"There's nothing worse than going in to the physio's room every day and going on the bike. That's all I can do.
"To see the lads out there training is devastating but that's part and parcel of the game and hopefully I will come back fitter."
