Motherwell boss Stuart McCall has not given up hope of securing James McFadden's return to the club.
Loan possibilities
The loan market is another option for McCall, who is realistic over the possibilities of luring players from south of the border.
He continued: "Last year we didn't go down the loan route with English clubs but we might do that with one or two.
"It's becoming harder to do that in a financial sense because the parent clubs are less willing to pay the bulk of their wages and also because even League Two clubs are able to match the wages we can pay.
"Clubs are also more reluctant to allow players to come up here because it ties their player up from one transfer window to another.
"Then again some agents might sway their clients away from playing in Scotland - it's maybe not so attractive to some because Rangers are no longer in the top division."
