The striker is confident that he would be allowed to move as a free agent if interest in his services was expressed.
He acknowledges that his situation in Edinburgh is unlikely to improve, with new Hibs boss Terry Butcher having overlooked him since inheriting the reins.
Vine feels the time is right to make a fresh start, with the 31-year-old admitting that he is not the type to merely sit on a deal and pick up his pay packet.
The former Birmingham and Queens Park Rangers frontman said in the Daily Record: "Reading between the lines, it will probably be the case that the club will tell me I'm free to go.
"I have had one chat with the manager and he told me it would be difficult to get game time because he is going with other people at the moment.
"There are not many times I've been at a football club and not been involved. The minute it has happened at any other clubs, I've tried to get myself away.
"If I'm not on the pitch and not in the squad it means I've got to go elsewhere to play football. The only time I've sat and finished a contract was at QPR off the back of injuries and other things happening.
"I've maybe gone on loan 10 times, so that's my attitude - if I am not playing, I have to get out.
"It does not matter what age you are, you want to play."
