Sky Sports analyses the British clubs' disappointing performances in the Champions League.
European champions Chelsea find themselves on the brink of Champions League elimination after a 3-0 defeat at Juventus. They are relying on a favour from Shakhtar Donetsk in the final group game. Celtic missed a chance to qualify with a game to spare as they lost 2-1 to Benfica in Lisbon, while Manchester United, who have already qualified, were beaten 1-0 at Galatasaray.

Highlight
The astonishing passage of play that saw Ashley Cole clear off the line before Chelsea broke down the other end only for Juan Mata to see Gianluigi Buffon block his tame effort.
Lowlight
The third goal capped a disappointing evening for the visitors and it was a pity that Petr Cech should be culpable after doing so much to keep Chelsea in the match.
Man of the Match
Both wing-backs were superb but Kwadwo Asamoah edged it. Playing up against two Chelsea full-backs he was still dominant and set up Arturo Vidal for the second goal.
Referee
Cuneyt Cakir kept control of things when they threatened to become heated midway through the second half.
Opta Fact
Juventus had 13 shots on target compared to Chelsea's two.

Sky Sports' Charlie Nicholas: "They missed Frank Lampard in midfield and, more importantly, John Terry's leadership. It's not about pace, it's about knowledge and experience."

Highlight
Ezequiel Garay's winner - a centre-back should not be able to finish in such a way. The former Real Madrid player was in the perfect place to hammer home fellow defender Luisao's knockdown, a right-footed volley flashing beyond the excellent Fraser Forster. It was a stunning goal and no more than Benfica deserved after dominating the second half.
Lowlight
Victor Wanyama's booking. There was nothing naughty in the foul committed by the midfielder with five minutes to go, but referee Viktor Kassai decided it merited a yellow. Crucially, it means Celtic will be without one of their key players for the pivotal final group match against Spartak Moscow.
Man of the Match
Garay's strike made him a leading candidate, while Salvio was a handful for Celtic all night out wide. But Forster's two saves at the death, both times denying Oscar Cardozo a third Benfica goal, means the goalkeeper gets the nod.
Referee
Viktor Kassai was perhaps a little fussy at times, particularly when the hosts were happy to play for time after going back in front, and the Hungarian won't be popular with Celtic fans after showing Wanyama a yellow in the closing minutes.
Opta Fact
Benfica had 67.3 per cent possession and attempted more than twice as many passes as Celtic.
Sky Sports Verdict
Sky Sports' John Collins: "The best team tonight were Benfica. Celtic never really got started at all, in possession of the ball they gave it away cheaply and at this level you are eventually going to get punished. They huffed and puffed at the end, but there was no calmness tonight."

Highlight
Aside from the goal, Hamit Altintop's thunderous second half drive saw the fingertips of Anders Lindegaard push the shot on to the bar as United scrambled the ball to safety. It was a simply stunning shot from the Gala midfielder that was met with an equally as stunning save.
Lowlight
Javier Hernandez had a particularly quiet game by his very high standards, but the service into him wasn't great and at times United looked quite impotent in front of goal.
Man of the Match
Nordin Amrabat worked tirelessly up and down the pitch, tracking back to retrieve possession as well as charge forward to set up attacks in equal measure.
Referee
Carlos Velasco Carballo had an OK game. With constant tackles occurring across the park he made a few poor decisions but nothing too severe to really influence one team too much either way.

Manchester United dominated possession and completed more passes but Galatasaray had the territorial advantage and had more than twice as many shots on target.
Sky Sports Verdict
Sky Sports' Dwight Yorke: "United will be bitterly disappointed. Galatasaray threw the kitchen sink at them in the second half and they will be unhappy to have conceded from a set-piece. Nevertheless, it was a good performance from the young lads."
