The former Hibernian man has been out of action since November after suffering ankle ligament damage at Hearts but he has made a quicker than expected return to training.
The Frenchman could make a return to the first team with Stilian Petrov and Jackie McNamara both picking up injuries in the 3-1 win at Livingston on Wednesday night.
Both are struggling to be fit for Saturday's trip to Hibernian, for which Alan Thompson is suspended, and Tuesday's CIS Insurance Cup semi-final against Rangers with O'Neill now considering rushing Agathe back after just one practice game to boost his midfield options.
Other injury victims Chris Sutton and Stephen Crainey are both back in light training and O'Neill may have to call on the trio after the injuries to Petrov and McNamara.
"He's been out a long time and obviously our bounce game on Tuesday was called off and that was a blow," said O'Neill.
"He's done a little bit of training with Chris Sutton and Stephen Crainey.
"Both Stephen and Chris have been out for a lot less time than Agathe, so he might have to be thrust into action.
"I don't know yet what I will do. We'll see how it goes, but in normal circumstances I would have preferred to have him play one or two more games before bringing him back.
"It may be a case of being forced into doing it, but we've got Momo Sylla who can come in."
