Henrik Larsson was on target in midweek and the Swede carried his goalscoring form into the SPL with Celtic`s only goal of the game on 18 minutes.
The former Feyenoord man latched onto a Steve Guppy pass to beat Julian Speroni with a fine shot.
Dundee rarely threatened, although Nacho Novo went close, with only the excellence of Speroni keeping the home side in the game.
He produced saves from Chris Sutton and Steve Guppy as Celtic collected the points.
The battle of the bottom two teams went the way of Aberdeen, who saw off Livingston 2-1.
The Dons got off to the perfect start when Russell Anderson headed home an Eric Deloumeaux corner inside the opening 60 seconds.
Livi battled bravely to get back into the game, and their dominance was rewarded with an equaliser on 54 minutes.
A Gary Bollan free-kick found its way through to Davide Xausa and he drilled the ball home from six yards.
Both teams traded chances in the final half-hour, but it was Ebbe Skovdahl`s Aberdeen who found the way to goal.
Livi keeper Javier Sanchez Broto could only parry a Darren Mackie shot and Kevin McNaughton gleefully rammed home the rebound to take the points back to Pittodrie.
Aberdeen are now in the dizzy heights of mid-table, while there is now daylight between Livi and the rest of the SPL.
