Martin O'Neill's side look well in control of the league in Scotland, but show no signs of complacency as they handed out another hiding - this time to Livingston.
Stephen Pearson opened the scoring at Parkhead after just 12 minutes and Chris Sutton made it two on 36 minutes - before Livi pulled one back four minutes before the break through Derek Lilley.
That was as good as it got for the visitors and Celtic started off the second half brightly by making it 3-1 with a goal from Alan Thompson.
Henrik Larsson took 55 minutes to finally get in on the act with the fourth goal and Thompson made it 5-1 with a penalty five minutes from time to rub salt into the wounds.
Celtic's thumping win was made even sweeter with arch rivals Rangers falling to a disappointing 2-0 defeat at Dundee United.
Two goals in three minutes did the damage for The Tangerines as Mark Kerr (31) and Andy McLaren (34) put them 2-0 ahead at Tannadice.
Alex McLeish's men could not find a way back into the match and they now find themselves a whopping 16 points behind The Bhoys in the SPL.
