The Bhoys have been head and shoulders above all other teams in Scotland this term, securing the title last month, and they emphasised the point on Saturday.
All games between these two fierce rivals are always hard-fought and it was no different at Parkhead.
Celtic dominated play but looked like being frustrated as Rangers defended resiliently.
However, they had not counted on Chris Sutton producing a fine goal with time running out.
Sutton showed too much strength for his marker Frank de Boer before curling a superb shot past Stefan Klos from the edge of the box.
The win completed an Old Firm whitewash for Celtic.Mark de Vries netted twice, sandwiching an effort from Andy Tod, to cement Hearts' place in third with a 2-1 home win over Dunfermline.
Mark Wilson's 52nd-minute effort helped Dundee United secure a win at Motherwell which sees The Terrors leapfrog their opponents and into fifth place.
Dundee climbed above Kilmarnock thanks to goals at the start and end of the game from Steven Milne and Nacho Noco.
Aberdeen will hope a summer of change will revive their fortunes as they slipped to a late home defeat to Hibernian.
The Dons stayed second bottom as Garry O'Connor's last-minute goal condemned them to their 20th league defeat of the season.
