Yakin, son of Turkish parents, was being tipped for a move to Turkey, with Galatasaray and Besiktas monitoring his progress, however that switch failed to materialise.
The playmaker has failed to settle in Germany after joining during the January transfer window and seemed to be on the verge of departing for Turkey, but the Istanbul giants were unable to match Stuttgart's é¼2.8 million asking price.
Monday's issue of Kicker is now claiming the Old Firm duo have joined the queue to bring the gifted, but notoriously moody, Swiss star to Glasgow.
Stuttgart coach Matthias Sammer has already stated the 27-year-old can leave the Gottlieb-Daimler-Stadium should an offer be forthcoming.
Yakin forged an excellent reputation for his exploits with Basle in the UEFA Champions League, however his Stuttgart stint would be his second failed move after his short-lived deal with Paris Saint Germain.
