The winner came from newly capped Northern Ireland international Ivan Sproule as he scored with just 20 minutes left on the clock.
The final game saw Motherwell grab a 2-1 victory at Inverness Caledonian Thistle. Caley player-boss Craig Brewster had put his side ahead on 25 minutes, but second half efforts from Scott McDonald (66) and William Kinniburgh (70) secured the win for Well.
