Nakamura impressed by Maloney

Shaun Maloney has impressed his team-mate Shunsuke Nakamura.

Shunsuke Nakamura believes his Celtic team-mate Shaun Maloney could soon be attracting the attention of the top clubs in Europe.

The 23-year-old striker netted his fifth goal in as many games in the 2-1 win over Inverness and moved the club within touching distance of the Scottish Premier League title.

And the former Reggina player admits his surprise at the quality and age of Maloney, as well as the injured Aiden McGeady.

"When I arrived here, I was so surprised by the quality of Maloney and McGeady," he said.

"They always do really good things and are good players, but then I realised they were so young.

"They could go to bigger clubs. Shaun can certainly play anywhere."

With a 17-point lead over Hearts, Celtic can win the title with victory away at Livingston followed by success at home against the troubled Tynecastle outfit on April 5.

But Nakamura insists the players will not be taking anything for granted.

"It will be a good thing to get the title as soon as possible. I just want to win those next two games.

"Our performances have been at quite a high level. We have been doing very well, but have not let our displays and training drop because of our league position.

"We are not up and down - we are quite steady and taking nothing for granted."
