Boss Craig Brewster is still looking to bring in new signings at the front and the back for the start of his first full season in charge at Dundee United.
Australian striker Scott McDonald (pictured) is one target for Brewster as his future at Motherwell looks uncertain.
McDonald handed in a transfer request at Motherwell when manager Terry Butcher confirmed he would be going to Sydney FC.
Brewster has been trying to take advantage of his relationship with new Fir Park coach and former United team-mate Maurice Malpas to lure the unhappy 22-year-old to Tannadice.
"I enquired about Scott because he's a player I rate highly. I just wanted to know how much he would cost and then it seemed it was going to be quite a lot," Brewster told the Daily Record.
"I would like Scott but I don't know if Maurice would want any of my players."
The manager is already believed to have offered a double swap of frontmen David Fernandez and Jim McIntyre for McDonald.
But while McIntyre has since left Tannadice, Brewster would still like to strengthen the attack ahead of the first league game of the season at the end of July.
At the other end of the pitch meanwhile, United have offered trials to Macedonian defender Vance Sikov and Norwegian full back Christian Kalvenes.
Former Tannadice midfielder Charlie Miller recommended the 29-year-old Brann Bergen player and they will both be given chances to shine.
"Charlie said he was worth a look and that's what we're going to do," Brewster added.
"He seems to have a good pedigree and it's no secret we've been looking at that left back position for a while.
"As with the other lad from Macedonia, it's up to those two to try and impress and grasp this opportunity."
Celtic man Charlie Mulgrew has been linked with another loan spell at the club after spending six months at United from January, but he is still trying to win a place under Hoops boss Gordon Strachan, playing on the pre-season tour of America.
