Scott Brown thinks the current Scotland squad is the best he's ever been involved in and they have a great chance to qualify for Euro 2016

Scott Brown admits the Scotland squad are desperate to put 18 years of misery behind them by booking their place in the finals of the 2016 European Championships.

Scotland have not made the latter stages of a competition since the World Cup in France in 1998 - when Brown was just 13 - but he believes the squad assembled by Gordon Strachan affords his nation their best chance in years.

Scotland take on Georgia at Ibrox on Saturday followed by a trip to Poland three days later and the midfielder is hopeful of putting their first points on the board after opening up their Group D campaign with a narrow 2-1 defeat to Germany in Dortmund.

However, the Celtic captain is quick to point out a failure to take all six points on offer will not spell the end of their qualification hopes.

Speaking to Sky Sports News HQ Brown, who has fully recovered from the hamstring injury which ruled him out for the first two months of the season, said: "This is definitely the best squad we have had for a while.

"You can see that by the way the lads consistently turn up. It means a lot to us and to the Scotland fans to see us having a full strength side in these qualifiers, trying to get to the finals instead of having a few injuries here and there and a lot of people pulling out.

"That has maybe happened in the past but now it is as strong as it has ever been.

"As for the games over the next week, We are not saying we need to get six points, we are just going to take it game by game.

"Georgia at Ibrox will be a hard game but we have good players in our dressing room and we believe that we can go pretty much anywhere and get a result."

Asked if group rivals Republic of Ireland's win in Tbilisi last month put pressure on Strachan's side, the Celtic captain said: "We can't worry about any other results. We just have to take care of our own."
