Thompson damaged a knee during the win Dunfermline earlier in the month, but The Gers are still worried and have decided to send the powerful forward to see a knee specialist.
The forward has his fingers crossed that he will be given the go-ahead to step up his training programme.
Thompson told Rangers' official website: "I am going to see the specialist tomorrow and he'll give me an update on the injury.
"I was told to rest for three weeks and that's what I've done so I am pretty confident I will be back in training in the next couple of weeks.
"Hopefully, I'll get the all-clear tomorrow and I can step up my training and try to get back into the team. But I still have a few weeks of rehabilitation ahead."
