German international midfielder Christian Nerlinger scored the only goal after 13 minutes after Livingston failed to clear a Fernando Ricksen shot, while the visitors had a Marvin Andrews goal disallowed in the second half.
Hearts consolidated their hold on third place with a 2-0 win over bottom club Partick. Striker Dennis Wyness had only scored one goal for Hearts beforehand, but he netted twice at Tynecastle.
He gave them a 42nd-minute lead from close range when Adrian Madaschi misjudged a Phil Stamp cross and completed the win 12 minutes from time, Kevin McKenna claiming the assist. By then Partick had lost Jamie Mitchell, sent-off for two yellow cards.
Derek Young scored the winner with a spectacular overhead kick as Dunfermline won 1-0 at home to Motherwell to stay fourth.
Hibernian beat Kilmarnock 2-0 courtesy of two goals in three minutes after half time to go up to sixth.
Scott Brown converted a Gary Smith cross for the first and Garry O'Connor doubled the lead after a Derek Riordan break. Hibs then brought on 16-year-old Jamie McCluskey, who became the youngest debutant in the Scottish top flight since 1946.
