The talented 24-year-old has been on the sidelines since picking up a knee injury against Glasgow rivals Celtic in late March.
Lovenkrands has had the joint looked at by various specialists, with the consensus being to take a break until pre-season.
"Peter has had his knee immobilised," said Gers boss Alex McLeish.
"He's had some trouble with it and the specialist, along with the doctor, feels that it will hopefully be cured if he rests for a month."
Surgery has not been ruled out, but The Gers will hope a period of inactivity will cure the problem.
The news casts a doubt over Lovenkrands' participation at Euro 2004, with the tournament kick-off a little over six weeks away.
A month's rest, if successful, would allow Lovenkrands to take his place at Portugal but a further setback would in all probability see him miss the competition.
