Hughes makes goal vow

Rangers' Stephen Hughes has vowed to continue his goalscoring start to the season.

Rangers midfielder Stephen Hughes has vowed to continue his goalscoring start to the season after netting a brace in the club's 4-0 win over Livingston.

The young Scot believes he is revelling in the freedom allowed to him by Alex Rae's selflessness alongside him and is confident more goals can follow.

Rae has proved a key figure for Rangers this term and Hughes is indebted to the former Wolves scrapper.

''I was talking to Alex in the dressing room before the game and he told me to get forward as much as I could,'' Hughes told the Daily Record.

''Alex bosses the game from midfield because he's a good passer, excellent on the ball and a strong tackler.

''The manager has also shown faith in me by giving me a regular game and people take more notice when you're in the team.

''That was the first occasion I have scored two goals in a match since an Under-21 international. I've been working with Jan Wouters on timing my runs into the box.''
