All three goals came in the first half, but it was a Kevin McNaughton own-goal that was ultimately to prove decisive.
Alex McLeish's side hit the front on nine minutes when Croatian striker Dado Prso bagged his 13th goal of the season with a crisp strike from twelve yards.
That lead was doubled seven minutes later: Ryan Esson made a fine save to deny Nacho Novo, but from the resulting corner the unfortunate McNaughton headed Fernando Ricksen's delivery into his own net.
The hosts responded well, though, and pulled one back almost instantly when Darren Mackie fired home after being teed up by Richard Foster.
Alex Rae could have restored the two goal cushion on the half hour mark but put his header from a Ricksen free-kick wide.
Noel Whelan spurned presentable chances either side of half-time to restore parity as Aberdeen continued to push The Gers all the way.
Indeed, Chris Clark had a glorious opportunity to grab a point in the closing stages, but Rangers held on for a much-needed triumph.
