Ten-man Rangers held on for a 3-2 win at Motherwell to go back to the top.Ten-man Rangers just held on for a 3-2 victory at Motherwell to go back to the top of the SPL.
Alex McLeish's side looked to be in cruise control as a Gregory Vignal double and Dado Prso strike saw them sitting on a 3-0 lead after 51 minutes.
However, things turned sour for Gers with Kevin McBride pulling a goal back for Well from the spot, before Barry Ferguson saw red on 79 minutes.
Martyn Corrigan made it 3-2 with just six minutes left to play but the visitors just about held on to claim a vital three points in the title race.
With Celtic surprisingly losing at home to Hearts on Saturday, McLeish's men knew they had a great chance at Fir Park on Sunday.
They started like a house on fire and Vignal put them ahead after just four minutes when he fired a great shot past Gordon Marshall after the hosts had failed to clear a cross.
Vignal doubled Rangers' advantage just after the half hour when he met Hamed Namouchi's cross from the right to head past Marshall.
Croatian marksman Prso looked to have sealed the game when he headed in from Fernando Ricksen's free kick from the left to make it 3-0.
McBride pulled a goal back for Motherwell on 71 minutes when he converted the spot kick given for a Robert Malcolm handball.
That goal seemed to be nothing more than a consolation before Ferguson was sent off for collecting his second booking 11 minutes from time.
Corrigan's 25-yard effort than took a deflection on its way past Ronald Waterreus to set up a grandstand finish.
Rangers had to battle hard to hold on, but they did just that to go above Celtic by just a single point and now lead the way again in Scotland.
