Mason suffered a suspected fractured cheekbone after an accidental collision with Celtic striker John Hartson.
Pars boss Jim Leishman fears the worst with the injury that could sideline Mason for up to six weeks.
"It looks like a cracked bone just next to his eye," said Leishman.
"A specialist is going to see him tomorrow (Monday). It was an accident, just one of those collisions."
Meanwhile, Leishman has revealed he is still hoping to sign Rangers goalkeeper Allan McGregor.
"We have been trying to get Allan for a couple of weeks now," Leishman told the club's official website.
"Alex McLeish was wanting to get through the first stage of the Champions League.
"He has done that and he has two experienced goalkeepers there. Allan felt that he was needing experience.
"We are hoping to tie that up on Monday or Tuesday of next week."
