Rangers put a dent in Hearts' SPL title aspirations after a 1-0 win at Ibrox.
Rangers put a dent in Hearts' SPL title aspirations after Peter Lovenkrands earned a 1-0 win at Ibrox.
Lovenkrands, whose hat-trick against Kilmarnock last week ended The Gers' winless run, was again the hero, scoring on 35 minutes for the hosts.
Hearts were barely in the game as Chris Burke fired an early shot over for the hosts and Hamed Namouchi's header was tipped over by Craig Gordon.
Marvin Andrews should have put Rangers in front, but the Trinidad & Tobago defender somehow put the ball over the bar from close range.
The decisive breakthrough arrived on 35 minutes when Namouchi knocked down a free kick and Lovenkrands reacted sharpest to stab home.
Burke was denied by another fine stop from Gordon, while in the second half Lovenkrands was off target with two good opportunities.
To complete a miserable afternoon for Hearts, Saulius Mikoliunas was sent off four minutes from time for a professional foul.
Hibernian are keeping a tight grip on third spot in the table after snatching a last-gasp 2-1 win at home to Motherwell.
Steven Fletcher's third minute goal put the hosts ahead before Scott McDonald levelled on 17 minutes. Derek Riordan snaffled a winner in injury time.
Kilmarnock reside firmly in the top half of the table as they, too, picked up a win at the death - beating Falkirk 2-1 away from home.
James Fowler put the visitors in front on 50 minutes before Falkirk equalised on 74 minutes through Kenny Milne. The winner came on 90 minutes through Kris Boyd.
Livingston and Aberdeen shared a 0-0 draw, while Dundee United's game with Dunfermline was called off as the Tannadice pitch was frozen.
