McGregor makes Gers vow

Allan McGregor is confident he can keep his place as first-choice goalkeeper at Rangers.

Allan McGregor is confident he can keep his place as first-choice goalkeeper at Rangers.

The 24-year-old has made the breakthrough at Ibrox this season and has seen off the challenge of Lionel Letizi.

Letizi began the season as number one keeper, but after some indifferent performances and injury lost his place to McGregor.

McGregor has impressed this season and Letizi has now left Rangers to return to France with Nice.

With Stefan Klos also set to leave Ibrox in the summer, McGregor is firmly established as the top keeper at Rangers and he is determined to prove to Walter Smith he does not need to bring in a new goalkeeper in the summer.

"I am happy with the way this season has gone for me so far," McGregor told Rangers World.

"It has taken me a long time to get here and since I came into the team everything has really happened at once.

"But I am not complaining and so long as I keep playing well I believe I can stay the number one for a long time.

"That is my aim but there is every chance we will bring in someone else this summer.

"Lionel has already left and Stefan (Klos) will be going at the end of the season so I want to show the manager that he doesn't need another keeper.

"He will almost certainly have to sign one because of numbers, but if I can play consistently well then I am confident I can be the Rangers number one."
